A Better Home... From Foundation To Finish

The Building America Program

Established by the US Department of Energy, the Building America program is the nation's only comprehensive set of home construction standards for health, safety, durability, comfort, energy efficiency and environmental consciousness.  Artistic Homes was among America's first builders to adhere to these stringent government standards and now stands as New Mexico's leading BUILDING AMERICA builder.  What does that mean to you?

A Question of Balance:  Airtight Construction versus Adequate Ventilation

Did you know that most traditionally build homes leak air through literally hundreds of unseen locations?  That can mean out-of-control heating and cooling bills.  It can also mean a lot of less-than-desirable additions to your home's environment...like dust, dirt, pollution, even those unwanted critters best left outside!  The good news is that in your Rembrandt Series home, we've solved the problem.

We build your home right, right from the start.  We begin by sealing the "sill plate," where the actual foundation of your home meets the wood framing.  Then we carefully seal the places - both obvious and not-so-obvious - that cause your home to leak unnecessarily... electrical wiring holes, exhaust and fresh air ducts, plumbing holes, heating, cooling and jumper ducts.  This airtight construction makes heating and cooling easier to control; it also means your heating and cooling systems work more efficiently, so costs of operation are reduced.  In fact, your Rembrandt Series home heating and cooling ductwork is tested to ensure there are virtually NO leaks!  Meticulous attention to air tightness also means that most dust, dirt and pollutants stay outside, Not in.

Now, let's take a look at the role of adequate ventilation.  Your new Rembrandt Series home is designed to allow fresh air in and stale air out.  Kitchen cooking surface ventilation, bathroom ventilation and dryer ducting are three of the ways we help your home breathe, by eliminating odors while reducing moisture and heat buildup.  Is it important?  You bet!  Think about this: the average clothes dryer can release as much as 12,000 cubic feet of hot, moist, unwanted air - per hour!  Get the picture?
